We all want to live in that perfect home, our dream home, a personal retreat away from our busy world we call life. Yet, many of our homes are small and don’t accommodate all our needs. What to do…? Look for a new home; move in ready or maybe a custom dream home? I’ve been told that a move in ready home can meet about 50% of our needs BUT a custom home can meet 75- 100 % of our needs. The difference being a custom home allows for all our wants within our budget. (Those things we call budgets do tend to hinder our wants.) Read More
Relocating can be difficult. There’s so many things to consider; where to buy a home, what schools are the best in the area, and is this a good move for the family. Hopefully, with this article, I can help with one of those questions; the schools.
Owasso is a fast growing city just outside of Tulsa, OK; minutes from downtown Tulsa and the airport. In the past few years a number of businesses have moved to town along with two medical centers. And with this growth the school system has grown as well.
Owasso Public Schools are ranked in the Top 10 schools in Oklahoma. It’s a 6A District school and competes with other 6A schools in the area. Students score well in Reading and Math and are ready for
college when they graduate. The school district has done a great job creating programs to interest every student like sports, the arts, speech/debate and many others.
The Pride of Owasso Band has received a Superior Rating at the OSSAA State Contest for 37 years in a row and awarded The John Philip Sousa Foundation’s coveted Sudler Trophy for marching excellence. The Owasso Band is the only band in the state of Oklahoma to receive the Sudler Trophy. They have also been invited 5 times to perform at the Tournament of Roses Parade. Recently, the band was invited to march in Dublin, Ireland to march in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. There are other parts of the band like the Wind Ensemble and Concert Bands that are making a name for themselves and winning other awards.
All students interested in instrumental music begin learning the fundamental and
rehearsal ethics in the sixth grade. In seventh and eighth students are placed in one of the two grade corresponding bands, each are performing, concert, and contest ensembles.
If singing music is more interesting there is the Voice of Owasso Choirs. It consists of the Master’s Choir, Women’s Choir, Mixed Choir, Men’s Choir and Jazz Choir; performing
different styles of music. They have performed in cities such as Washington D.C., Orlando, and Chicago; as well as a Royal Caribbean cruise and most notable Carnegie Hall in New York City.
Other programs offered to students are visual arts, drama, media, and speech/debate. The media department has filmed instant replays for the Jumbo-tron and submitted videos to Fox 23 Techno Teen. The speech and debate program won multiple team sweepstakes awards and have had several State finalists and Nationals qualifiers.
If the arts aren’t the only interest of your student Owasso Schools offer a wide variety of sports programs. The following is a list of sports:
